The title sequence to David Lynch’s Lost Highway will always be one of my absolute favorites.
The driver’s point of view, barreling down a pitch black highway at night, the only thing illuminated is what your headlights shine on out in front of you. All you see are the lines on the road, with burn out marks coming and going as you pass.
That’s the imagery I wanted to evoke with this piece.
Suspended on a 20” sterling silver ball chain necklave, two charms dangle: A fine silver dog tag embossed with a laser-cut tire tread pattern. Next to it, the choice of either a clear tourminalated quartz or a clear rutilated quartz, representing both the lines in the road (yellow) or the burn out marks in the road (black).
Both are bezel set in recycled sterling silver with no backplate, to allow light to shine through the stone and illuminate the rutiles with the negative space.
