Oil. This slick, seemingly innocuous substance stewing underground- the remnants of creatures long since passed.
Once it hits the surface, though? Black gold. A substance on which we have come to depend, and fight each other over like cats in a box. When it spills in a body of water it spreads devastation. Claim it and you're a king. Then watch people come for your crown.
Maybe one day we won't need it. One can only hope.
When I see it spill on the floor of a garage, and the light hits it at just the right angle, I'm always surprised by the metallic rainbow revealed. Everything in nature has its beauty, I suppose. We're the ones who pervert it.
Made completely by hand, this "oil slick" rainbow orb is the result of dichroic and clear glass fused together in a kiln. Set in a sterling silver "crown" bezel, suspended on a sterling silver satellite chain.
